Unfortunately, everyone reading this just lost. Sorry.
Today is International Lose The Game Day. For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, the rules of the game are very simple.
1. You are playing the game.
2. Everytime you think about the game, you lose.
3. Loss must be announced.
That’s it. That is how it is played. Basically, every time you remember the game exists, you lose. Then you have to announce it out loud so everyone around you also loses. To win the game, you just have to forget about it.
My kids taught me about the game several years ago, much to their chagrin, because I cause them to lose frequently. Which makes them groan and makes me laugh.
Some people are creative about getting others to lose the game, leaving notes in library books that say, “You just lost” or things like that. I’ve heard of kids who leave notes in other kids’ lockers that say, “The Game.” One guy drove around town with a sign on his car that stated “You just lost.” I actually have a Wikipedia reference because of a column I wrote a few years ago about the game. I caused thousands of people to lose that day.
It is silly, useless and doesn’t really mean a lot in the whole scheme of life, but it sure is fun to be somewhere and announce, “I just lost the game” just to see what happens. There are always a few looks of puzzlement, but invariably several people groan, laugh or swear.
So, now that you’re aware, you are a loser. Go forth and share your status with everyone you see and cause everyone to lose the game today. It is 10-10-10, the day to lose and lose big.
